Full story

stencilingThe wonderfully stenciled wall designs are quite easy to achieve and many more effects once you get the hang of it. Stencils can be bought from many home depots as well as the supplies you will need such as the brushes and other effects you can add to your paint should you require it. From pearl effects to shimmering colors, they can all be done and easily provided by the paint store, just make sure you get a store with a mixing machine so in case you need more paint, you can get an exact match. Estimating paint for effects can be quite tricky but once you go through a liter or so of paint, estimating would be easier. Whether you decide to do the stencil on a border or on the whole wall, you decide on the limit. Stencil brushes are short and quite stiff for they need to deliver the paint only on the cut-out shapes that makes up the various patters you choose, You can even experiment with textured rollers to give it more of an effect, or even use sponges to apply the paint.
As said, your imagination is the limit. Normally, when you stencil, you should chose a color that is complementary to the main color of the wall. You can use neutrals for this purpose and the border can be used as transition from one color to the next if you have two-tone walls. Try to practice your technique on a piece of plywood so you get the hang of the whole experience and layout the height, marking ever so lightly with a pencil or masking tape.
