Most of the time, you arrange for your family to move out of the house for major home repairs mainly for safety reasons. But in today’s economy, that might not always be possible so here’s some tips to help you out should an emergency arise without the contractor in the house.
Know the main parts of the systems in the house, gas, water and electricity so you know where to go to when needed. A broken faucet that cannot be remedied should have you turn off the water mains quickly for the greater the pressure of the water supply the greater the risk of flooding the house. The panel box for the house’s electricity should have clear labels so you know which to flip if you need to. Same with the piped-in gas, there is usually a mains supply valve to shut-off supply in an emergency.
