//"motifs"You see them on many design magazines and you’d think they are achievable only by experts, wrong. These effects or motifs can easily be done by beginners like you and me as well as by the experts, but done by you, you get the personal touch. From the kids room to our room, all you need is an innate skill to visualize your design on the wall. Try to sketch out the desired effect or blow it up from a picture or whatever reference you may have. You can use the grid method which has you dividing the drawing, sketch or picture into quadrants, doing the same with the wall and transferring them with a pencil to the wall based on your design. This makes it easier and more exact rather than winging it, for that may be more for an expert.

Once you have the layout, take all the necessary precautions such as paint cloths and drop cloths to protect the floors and furniture so you don’t make too much of a mess. It may not get done at one go but the effort would surely be worth it. Best to start with a wall that has been painted with semi-gloss or flat paint which would allow the paint to stick better. You can put a clear coat of gloss over when you are done with your design to protect it from smudging and dirty hands. You can even have the design extend to the cieling for a more drastic effect, but be prepared for long hours working above your head which can be tiring. When everything is done, step back and check your work before applying a coat of clear glossy paint to protect everything. Then all you do is wait for it to dry and enjoy the wonderful room you’ve just done.
